El toletero de los Yankees Aaron Judge perdió este lunes otra oportunidad de batear el jonrón récord número 62 de la temporada de Grandes Ligas, pero a su alrededor abundaron grandes esfuerzos como el soberbio pitcheo del dominicano Luis Severino.
Severino (7-3) lanzó siete entradas sin hits con siete ponches en la victoria 3×1 de los Yankees sobre los Rangers de Texas, destacándose con jonrones Giancarlo Stanton y el venezolano Marwin González.
Judge tiene tres juegos más de temporada regular, dos el martes y otro el miércoles, para tratar de conectar su vuelacerca número 62 y romper así el récord de la Liga Americana establecido en 1961 por Roger Maris, también con los Yankees.
El recio toletero igualó la marca de 61 años de 61 bambinazos el miércoles pasado frente a los Azulejos de Toronto, pero no ha batido el récord en cuatro juegos desde entonces.
La marca de Maris había sido el récord de la MLB hasta que Sammy Sosa (66 en 1998) y Mark McGwire (70 en 1998) lo batieran varias veces en la década de 1990 durante la notoria era de los esteroides en el béisbol.
En tanto, Barry Bonds, implicado en el escándalo de drogas BALCO, estableció el récord de una sola temporada en las Mayores en general de 73 jonrones en el 2001.
Judge, de 30 años, conectó en la jornada un roletazo, bateó para una doble matanza, despachó un sencillo y se ponchó contra los Rangers en el primer juego de la serie de fin de temporada para los Yankees que se dirigen a los playoffs.
Severino enfrentó al mínimo de 21 bateadores en siete entradas sin hits con siete ponches y otorgó solo una base por bolas en la tercera entrada a Josh Smith.
El derecho dominicano de 28 años fue sacado del montículo por el mánager de los Yankees, Aaron Boone, antes de la octava entrada, una movida hecha para asegurar que estaría en forma cuando comiencen los playoffs luego de su reciente regreso de la lista de lesionados.
El relevista quisqueyano Miguel Castro reemplazó a Severino y, luego de ponchar al cubano Adolis García, permitió un sencillo de Josh Jung en un batazo de línea al jardín izquierdo para poner fin a su brillante labor de ‘no-hitter’.
