Acabada la temporada, Sergio aceptará la oferta que le ha hecho el Inter Miami para jugar la MLS. El conjunto de Florida, que pudo visitar el pasado verano con motivo de la gira por Estados Unidos, ya le había tentando con anterioridad. La pasada temporada ya le quiso para que fuera uno de sus jugadores franquicia esta misma campaña, pero el de Badia del Vallès quería acabar su contrato con el Barça.
De hecho, desde la entidad blaugrana le propusieron una renovación por dos temporadas más, aunque, eso sí, supeditado todo a una rebaja sustancial de su ficha. Busquets solo puso la condición que, llegado el 30 de junio de 2023, sería él única y exclusivamente, pudiera decidir personalmente si quería cumplir el segundo año de contrato o poner punto y final a su carrera en el Camp Nou y liberarse del último año firmado. De hecho, la idea para renovar era firmar una temporada más, pero el Barça solo estaba dispuesto a sellar el acuerdo si lo hacía por dos. El canterano quería ser amo y señor de su futuro, tal y como sucederá cuando acabe la presente campaña.
Así las cosas, es difícil que nadie pueda hacerle cambiar de idea, aunque entra dentro de las posibilidades que Xavi insista en seguir contando con él, por lo menos, una temporada más. Habrá que ver si el técnico aprieta mucho a su futbolista y, en este caso, también amigo para intentar que abandone el club un año más tarde de lo previsto, pero no parece que vaya a ser fácil porque el jugador está decidido totalmente a jugar en la MLS a partir de la temporada 2023-2024, con quien tiene muy avanzado también su futuro contrato.
