El jardinero central de los Marineros de Seattle, Julio Rodríguez, y el también guardabosque Michale Harris (Bravos) ganaron este lunes el premio al ‘Novato del Año’ de las Grandes Ligas de Béisbol en sus respectivas Ligas.
El dominicano Rodríguez, apodado J-Rod, capturó el trofeo de mejor novato en la Liga Americana, mientras que el de la Liga Nacional fue para Harris, ambos premios otorgados por un panel de medios.
Rodríguez tuvo 29 de 30 votos de primer lugar para 148 puntos, mientras que el receptor de Baltimore Adley Rutschman fue segundo en la Liga Americana y el jardinero Steven Kwan (Guardianes) tercero en ese circuito.
El quisqueyano Rodríguez, de 21 años, se convirtió en el quinto jugador de Seattle en llevarse el premio después de Kyle Lewis, los japoneses Ichiro Suzuki y Kazuhiro Sasaki y Alvin Davis.
También fue el octavo dominicano en cualquiera de las ligas en ser nombrado mejor novato de la temporada.
Aparte de liderar a todos los novatos con 28 jonrones, Rodríguez ocupó el segundo lugar con 75 carreras impulsadas, 84 anotadas y 25 bases robadas.
Al convertirse en el primer jugador con 25 o más jonrones y 25 bases robadas en su temporada de novato, Rodríguez logró la hazaña en 125 juegos, tres menos que la marca anterior establecida por el Novato del Año de la Liga Americana en 2012, Mike Trout (Angelinos).
Por su parte, Harris, de los Bravos de Atlanta y de 21 años, se llevó el pergamino por la Liga Nacional al batear .297 con 19 jonrones y 20 bases robadas, además de jugar una fantástica defensiva en el jardín central.
